Fidra Dog Services is owned and operated by Duncan Carson, based in East Lothian, Scotland.
We are all about enjoying life with our dogs and having fun together every step of the way. We believe that a happy dog and a happy owner starts with a strong bond, built on trust, understanding, and good communication.
Our dog walking service gives your dog the exercise, enrichment, and care they need, while you have peace of mind knowing they’re in safe hands.
Our training is kind, reward-based, and designed to help your dog learn in a positive and encouraging way. We’ll help you understand your dog better, and help your dog understand you too, so you can build a real connection that works both ways.
Because at the end of the day, it’s about enjoying your dog and the life you share together.
What we offer:
Group and individual walks.
Premium walks.
Puppy/Dog home visits.
1-2-1 dog and puppy training.
Opening times:
Monday to Thursday, 0800hours - 1600hours
Group walk times: 0900-1000hours, 1130-1230hours, 1400-1500hours (travel time not included)
Premium Walk: These walks will be advertised on social media and will take place on a Saturday or Sunday morning, these walks will consist of 2 dogs per walk for 2+ hours and will be based on first come first served basis.
Puppy/Dog home visit: Will be arranged between Fidra Dog Services and the Client.
Training sessions: Will be arranged between Fidra Dog Services and the Client on best time and date that suits both parties.
Hi, I am Duncan, a local lad from East Lothian.
I have a lifelong love for adventure, you will always find me out walking, from mountaineering in the Highlands to the local beaches and woodland walks, the outdoors is where you will find me.
My love for dogs started at a very young age having gun dogs when growing up and then having 10 years service as a Police Dog Handler, working with highly trained dogs in real-world operational environments.
During this time, I trained and handled:
- General purpose Police dogs for tracking and searching for criminals, missing persons, and property
- Drugs detection dogs
- Cadaver search dogs
This experience has given me an exceptional understanding of canine behaviour, obedience, scent work, and handling under pressure.
You and your dog are in safe hands — I am fully DBS checked, PBI insured, dog first aid trained, qualified member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) and East Lothian Council registered.

GROUP WALKS
At Fidra Dog Services, we provide enriching group walks across East Lothian — from beach adventures and woodland trails to scenic riverside walks.
Every outing is designed to give your dog the perfect balance of mental and physical stimulation through safe exercise, socialising, and real engagement with the world around them.
Dogs are collected and transported in a fully equipped van with secure individual cages to ensure safe and comfortable travel to and from each walk. For added peace of mind, every dog wears a GPS tracker along with a name tag displaying contact details while out on walks. Each dog will be towel dried and put back in your home after the walk.
We believe dogs thrive when they can explore, interact, and enjoy natural environments together. Our carefully managed group walks encourage confidence, positive social skills, and plenty of fun, while giving owners confidence that their dogs are happy, active, secure, and cared for in a safe and enriching environment.
Group walk price: £15 per walk
PREMIUM WALKS
At Fidra Dog Services, we provide tailored, 2+ hour walks with only 2 dogs. This walk is designed around your dog’s individual needs and personality.
Exploring the stunning East Lothian coastline and rolling Lammermuir Hills, every walk combines fun, safe adventure with light training, engagement, and mental and physical stimulation.
Your dog will be collected and transported in a fully equipped van with secure individual cages to ensure safe and comfortable travel to and from each walk. For added peace of mind, every dog wears a GPS tracker along with a name tag displaying contact details while out on walks. Each dog will be towel dried and put back in your home after the walk.
We focus on building confidence for any environment your dog may encounter, helping them feel calm, engaged, and secure. After an enriching walk full of activity and stimulation, your dog will return home happy, fulfilled, and ready for a well-earned rest.

PUPPY/DOG HOME VISITS
At Fidra Dog Services, our 30 minute puppy or dog home visits provide caring, tailored support when you can’t be there.
Whether your puppy needs toilet breaks, feeding, playtime, reassurance, or your dog simply needs companionship and attention during the day, each visit is focused on keeping them happy, comfortable, and relaxed in their own home environment.
We provide engaging interaction, light training reinforcement, mental stimulation, and plenty of care and attention to help build confidence and maintain routine.

Training That Comes to You, Built Around You and Your Dog
At Fidra Dog Services we offer 1-2-1 training which gives you the tools and assistance to train your dog and equip you to continue the training daily.
Our in-person training is all about making things easy and enjoyable—we come to you, so your dog can learn in a familiar environment where they feel most comfortable.
We’ll show you how to train your dog in a fun, rewarding way that keeps them engaged, stimulated, and eager to learn. It’s not just about your dog learning—it’s about you learning too, so you can build a strong, lasting connection together.
With kind, reward-based training, we help you create a happy, well-mannered, and obedient dog without taking away their personality or joy.
I hear you ask, 'What is reward base training?'. The quick and easy answer is - reward base training is when you ask the dog to do something for you ie sit. If the dog does what it is asked, it is rewarded and if it doesn’t then no reward.
Need a Bit of Help? We’ve Got You
Feeling like you don’t know what to do, or that things are getting a bit out of control? Whether it’s one specific issue or a few things you’d like to improve, we’re here to help.
If it is things like improving the dogs recall, stopping pulling on the lead and building general obedience, we’ll guide you every step of the way.
It’s not all serious training either—we can add in fun, engaging activities like scent work and tricks to keep your dog stimulated and loving the process.
After the training you will have the confidence to give your dog the correct clear instruction and in doing so your dog will be sociable and obedient but still have their fun loving personality.
I am not a dog behaviourist, but if that is something you need I can recommend businesses in the Eat Lothian area.
ONE OFF TRAINING
Target a specific challenge with our focused single-session training, perfect for resolving issues like poor recall or lead pulling. For more comprehensive skill-building, our 4-session course is recommended.
Following your initial enquiry, we’ll have a telephone consultation to discuss your specific needs and goals.
• 90-minute private 1-2-1 consultation, providing practical tools and hands-on guidance tailored to your dog.
• You will receive a lesson plan and demonstration videos to support your ongoing practice at home.
• A follow-up call one week later to monitor your progress and provide additional advice as you implement the training.
One-off Session: £60
4 BLOCK TRAINING SESSIONS
The 4 block training session is designed to give you the tools to understand your dog. Give you the confidence when giving your dog a command that the dog knows what you are asking it to do.
Once you have got in touch, we will have a telephone consultation where we can discuss your needs.
• 4 x 60 minute 1-2-1 in person training sessions which will give you the hands on tools to assist you with your dog. Everything from training your dog to sit, down, loose lead walking, recall and doing fun tricks.
• Flexible timescale for the 4 training block sessions.
• We will leave you with a lesson plan, and videos in how to carry on with your training.
• Continuous follow up telephone consultations over the 4 block training sessions to discuss your progression and to help with any teething issues.
Block Training Session: £150
PUPPY TRAINING
The training session is designed to help you get ready before you get the nice, cute, cuddly puppy or you have already got the puppy at home. These sessions will give you the knowledge and tools on how to help the puppy integrate into your home and be part of your family.
Once you have got in touch, before the puppy comes home, or already at home, we will have a telephone consultation where we can chat about what the puppy requires, its environment and ascertain where you need assistance.
• 2 x 60–90 minutes 1-2-1 in person training sessions which will give you the hands on tools to assist you with your puppy.
• Training your puppy from toilet training, feeding and socialising, letting your puppy explore its new environment whilst training it to be a well balanced dog.
• Flexible timescale for the 2 training block sessions.
• We will leave you with a lesson plan, and videos in how to carry on with your training.
• Continuous follow up telephone consultations over the 2 training sessions to discuss your progression and to help with any teething issues.
• Further 1-2-1 training can be organised if required (cost can be negotiated)
